Corey Helford Gallery (CHG) debuted a major group show collaboration, Kirbyvision: A Tribute to Jack Kirby, in partnership with the Jack Kirby Museum & Research Center. In addition, the original art of Jack Kirby will be on view in Gallery 3, as well as a solo show titled YONDER! by Bennett Slate in Gallery 2. These exhibitions opened on June 29, 2024, however you still have time to catch them through August 3, 2024.
CHG Kirbyvision Jack Kirby
Kirbyvision will feature the work of over seventy artists who pay homage to the legendary artist and his effect on popular culture. Artists such as Sunter of Kai & Sunny, Ana Bagayan, Andrea Mutti, Atta Boy, Bruce Simon, Eric Joyner, Luke Chueh, Mariko, Martin Meunier, Patrick McDonnell, Richard Ahnert, Ryan Heshka, Simone Legno of Tokidoki, Skinner, The London Police, will be included as well as many more. Jack Kirby
In addition to his immense influence on comics, Kirby has created, and/or co-created Captain America, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, the Hulk, Darkseid, just to name a few. Kirby’s innovative style, as well as stylistic hallmarks like his trademark “Kirby Krackle” have pushed boundries. Kirby’s squiggles, whether indicating metallic shine, futuristic and alien machinery/circuitry, or dynamic musculature, are enshrined in the comic book visual storytelling vocabulary. His later intricate costume designs also invoke a cosmic comic book quintessence: Kirby headgear is a genre unto itself. Kirby machines are unlike any others, whether weapons, portals, or vehicles, they all draw in the eye and electrocute the viewing mind with their sublime technology.
Jack Kirby Museum & Research Center
The Jack Kirby Museum & Research Center promotes and encourages the preservation, and appreciation of the work of Jack Kirby. The museum celebrates the life of Jack Kirby as well as all of his work. To this end, the Museum sponsors and otherwise supports study, teaching, conferences, discussion groups, exhibitions, displays, publications, and cinematic, theatrical, and multimedia productions. YONDER! Bennett Slater, Gallery 2
Also opening…YONDER!, a solo show by Bennett Slater also opens in Gallery 2. Bennett Slater is a fine artist currently working out of Toronto, Canada. Utilizing traditional oil painting methods on wood surfaces, his influences range from the rich depth of the Dutch masters to gaudy flash of B-movies ‒ from Van Dyck to Vincent Price. Slater’s subjects often meet at the crossroads between classic and contemporary idols of worship. This dichotomy of contrasting artistic disciplines and influences lends itself to the underlying dualities observed in his work.
