The Fahey/Klein Gallery present “Danny Lyon: Vintage Works,” a comprehensive career survey of works by American documentary photographer Danny Lyon. For over 50 years Lyon has demonstrated a consistent engagement with social and political issues and concern for many of the people he photographed. Influenced by writer William Agee and photographer and filmmaker Robert Frank, Lyon immersed himself in the lives of his subjects, creating individual bodies of work accompanied by innovative books that documented their lives, whether it was a young civil rights worker - now Congressman -- John Lewis or convicted rapist Billy McCune. On view: December 23rd, 2017; Art Party: 7-9pm; Fahey/Klein Gallery, 148 N. La Brea Ave., LA, 90036; http://www.faheykleingallery.com/

November 11, 2017:
Shulamit Nazarian features a reception for Los Angeles-based artist Cammie Staros' first exhibition with the gallery, les vases communicants. The exhibition's title references surrealist André Breton's 1932 essay by the same name, which in turn borrows it from the scientific principle of "communicating vessels." Looking specifically to the shapely vessels of Classical Greece, the artist's hand-built objects marry ancient ceramic techniques with modern industrial materials such as neon, machined metals, and moving blankets. The resulting sculptures are rooted in history, yet disarmingly present. On view: Dec 20, 2017; Art Party: 6pm; Shulamit Nazarian, 616 N. La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036; http://shulamitnazarian.com
